Resume Format for Freshers: Example and Free Template

No work experience yet? This is the resume format that works for freshers, with the order of sections and what to write in each one.

A fresher resume has a different job from an experienced one. You cannot lead with a long work history, so you lead with what you can show: your education, projects, skills and any internship. Keep it to one page and make it easy to scan.

The best section order for a fresher

  1. Name and contact details. Phone, email, city and a LinkedIn or portfolio link.
  2. Summary or objective. Two lines about your degree, your strongest skills and the role you want.
  3. Education. Degree, college, years and your grade or CGPA if it is good.
  4. Projects. The most important section when you have no experience. Name, one line on what it does and the tools you used.
  5. Internships or training. Even a short internship or an online course counts.
  6. Skills. Tools and languages that match the job post.
  7. Achievements and extras. Awards, certificates, clubs, languages.

Example summary for a fresher

Computer engineering graduate with hands on experience building web apps in React and Node.js. Completed a 3 month internship and 4 personal projects. Looking for a junior developer role where I can learn fast and ship useful features.

How to write project bullets

Start with an action word and finish with a result. Write "Built a budget tracker used by 200 classmates" instead of "Made a project". Add the tools in brackets so recruiters and software can match your skills.

Formatting rules

  • One page, A4, single column.
  • A plain font at 10 to 12 points.
  • Consistent dates and bullets.
  • Save as a PDF named with your name.

You can follow this order in the free resume builder. Pick a single column template, fill in the sections above and download the PDF. It needs no sign-up. For more on layouts, read the resume format guide.
